ART TALK w/ Malcolm Zachariah, Artist

Meet and learn from visual artist, Malcolm Zachariah!

ABOUT MALCOLM:
Malcolm Zachariah is a multi-disciplinary artist based in his hometown of Oklahoma City. Self-taught while studying biochemistry (BS, University of Oklahoma), Malcolm draws on motifs from the macroscopic (rainforests and coral reefs) and microscopic (cells and molecules) worlds. He has recently explored the diverse relationships among life forms, including our own species, through printed kirigami installations made in collaboration with Emma Difani. Malcolm is also active in the arts through leadership in the Art Group OKC collective and promoting diversity and inclusion in art.

ABOUT MALCOLM’S ART:
I am a bridge-builder making connections between art and science with nature as my guide. I experiment in several media including pen and ink drawing, watercolors, ceramics, printmaking, and over 25 years of kirigami (cut and folded paper) sculpture. I find drawing and linework to be a common foundation, from sketchbooks to 3D watercolors. Recently, I have been making successively larger kirigami installations. Each medium teaches me something different about the elements of art, and I often distill biological forms into abstract geometries. I am often concerned with the intersection of planes.
