ABOUT SCOUT:
The light-infused work by Scout Cuomo explores the intersection of the human and natural world. As an impressionistic and abstract impressionistic full-time working artist, Scout works predominately in the mediums of painting and drawing. By embedding pigment in thick coats of epoxy, she infuses her pieces with light to create a glass-like gloss. The end result is a surprisingly delicate, three-dimensional painting. An artist industriously producing new work, Scout has sold her paintings and prints online internationally for over a decade. Scout is dedicated to supporting the local creative economy as an artist coach and non-profit gallery owner at The You + ME Gallery. She collaborates with other community artists and makers, from blacksmiths to graphic designers. A native of Texas, she moved to the Northeast over fifteen years ago to seriously pursue her art. She’s a graduate of Smith College and has also worked as a tattoo apprentice and resurfaced wooden boats in the harbor of Provincetown, MA, while living on a sailboat—experiences that inform her work today.
ABOUT SCOUT’S ART:
Over time, I have realized that my pains, joys, and creative life are what connect me with all of humanity. I am not alone. You are not alone. We are connected. Painting has become my spiritual home. It is where I transform my discomfort and invite others into a shared experience of emotion.
Attending to metaphorical qualities of water and color, I aim to create art that is personal and universal — to depict psychological experiences of living that are reparative, serene, and immersive. We are fluid selves, clusters of contradictions in a culture that prioritizes productivity over presence. We frequently find ourselves in need of recentering. That is what my art offers. It offers a place to rest, expand, recoup, submerge, emerge, and be vulnerable... together.
